About

The parish of St Luke the Evangelist was founded in 1937, with St Luke’s church opening in 1940. It was last consecrated in 2005.

As well as St Luke’s church, the parish also consists of St Leo’s, which is either a five-minute drive or a 30-minute walk away. The two parishes merged together in 2022.

As well as two churches, the parish also oversees three schools. Two of which are primary (St Leo’s and Southmead Catholic Primary School and St Luke’s Catholic Primary School) and one secondary school (St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Academy).

St Luke’s church is also within walking distance from Whiston Hospital.

Fr Michael Thompson is the parish priest. He has been based in Whiston since 2021.

Dcn Joseph Morgan is our parish deacon and has been in the role since 2016.
